West Virginia Beef Industry Council WVBIC
West Virginia Beef Industry Council (WVBIC) is the producer directed Board which oversees the collection of the beef checkoff and manages the promotional programs of that checkoff. The board is made up of nine members appointed by West Virginia Cattlemen’s Association, West Virginia Farm Bureau, West Virginia Dairy Producers, West Virginia Livestock Marketing Association and the West Virginia Packing Industry.
WVBIC collects the federally mandatory one dollar per head checkoff each time a beef or dairy animal is sold. Of each dollar collected $.50 is forwarded to the Cattlemen’s Beef Board to fund national promotion programs. The remaining $.50 is used to fund in-state programs.
Each year cattle producers approve promotion and research projects in the areas of retail promotions, consumer information, nutritional education, youth education, beef quality assurance and foodservice promotion.
